Scientists use a scale called the pH scale which measures how acidic or basic a liquid is. The scale goes from 0 to 14, 7 being neutral, 0 to 7 being acidic and 7 to 14 being basic. Coca-Cola's pH level is 2.5 and milk's is 6.7. In this experiment both are acids. However, Coca-Cola is more acidic. The chemical reaction equation is 3Ca +2H3PO4--> Ca3(PO4)2 + 3H2
Coca-Cola was discovered in 1886 by an Atlanta pharmacist, Dr. John S. Pemberton. Dr.Pemberton created a flavored syrup and mixed it with carbonated water; those who sampled it claimed it to be "excellent". Frank M. Robinson, Dr. Pemberton's partner and bookkeeper, is given credit for naming the beverage "Coca-Cola" and for designing the trademark that is still used today. Cows were domesticated around 8000 BC, but then later milk was discovered around 4000 BC. The first cattle brought to the Americas arrived at Vera Cruz, Mexico, in 1525. Around 25-220 AD was the oldest evidence of soy milk in a Chinese mural. In 1896 Henry Trimble first referred soy milk in the United States. In 1917, the first commercial soy milk in the United States was produced. Soy milk's pH level is around 6.5.
